4 Early Peter Abrahams Novels!

… have now been published by Open Road and are available starting today.

Spence: Any thoughts?

P.A.: I wish we’d had cover art like this the first time.

Spence: Here’s one. We’ll show the others – THE FURY OF RACHEL MONETTE, TONGUES OF FIRE, and PRESSURE DROP in the next few days.

    But no Chet.

I can’t wait to read them!

Our newspaper says we have gone 741 days since the last 90 degree temperature in Buffalo. Today or tomorrow we may hit 90!

Looking forward to reading the New to Us Books by PA.
Good Morning, Royals, MP&LLMom and Everyone.
Preparing for another stretch of Hot Temperatures.

Weather guy says we are entering a 7 day stretch of 90 plus degree days. Sounds like a reason for Frosty Paws to us.

We hit 90 yesterday, and could possibly again this week.

Funny, when C & B first came out PA’s editor wanted him to use another name, in case these books were not a hit. Now they are saying PA, AKA, SQ.

We got a friend request on FB this morning from a John W, who is friends with SQ. We do not think we know him. Did anyone else get a request from him?

I’ve read most of these. It is a nice cover.

We’ll be in the 90s again today. Have I mentioned that to me anything over 70 is much too hot?

    Good morning all.

Good morning T&G, MollyPop and Loulou’s Mom and Bear Spirit.
My wind chimes are up and it is very windy. So far I do not hate them. It is nice to be back home after visiting A Catty Librarian, but it was sad to leave her and the nephew and nieces. sniff.

It must be vacation time with the smaller number of posts.

It is time to put all my fabric away again. I seem to love pulling it out of the organized space I store it in. Then I like to leave it on any flat surface I can find. Sigh.

I do like the new cover for Peter’s books. I took all of mine and donated them to the local library. They are definately different from Spencer’s books. My favorite was Oblivion. They are a lot ‘harder’ than Spencer’s books. But very difficult to put down.

Our official temp is taken at the Buffalo Niagara Airport which is far from Lake Erie. Downtown, where I am, is on the 71 degree lake. The breezes can be lovely. We are usually at least 5 degrees cooler than reported. I hope there will be some wind today. If not, I may hop on the Metro and go to Canalside and the harbor.

Our Metro comes up from being a subway to run above ground from the theatre district to the harbor and this part is free. I use it a lot.

    Barb, Maggie and Lucy,
No we did not get that request and would not click on it if we did. Spencer knows too many people…some you might not want to know.

Nice cover. Do not go down that road. I’m warning you!

I haven’t read any of those books although Pressure Drop was brought along on my last trip out of town. I found a comedy to read instead. Like Staff, Oblivion is my favorite of the PA books I have read.

We had rain all night and now sunshine this morning. Perfect. I hope all you 90 degree-ers manage to stay cool.

I have read all four of the books being re-released. Hard Rain (published 1988) has quite an intricate plot (not uncommon for any of Peter’s works) and revolves to an extent around the Woodstock Music Festival. No spoilers other than that. The Fury of Rachel Monette was his first and Tongues of FIre was his second book. Of all his books, I thought Tongues of FIre was probably the hardest to read, and I thought if it had been 50 pages longer (probably a rare critique) it might have been better at the end, but even so, it was well worth reading. Of course the one thing that is missing from the re-releases are the photos of a very young PA on the back covers. On Hard Rain in particular, there is a very young PA with lots of long curly hair and one unbelievable sweater. And with my cellphone camera I have captured it right here (sorry, Peter, if you wanted to keep it buried):

Someone asked yesterday (I think) whether or not Mom thought SQ and David R were friends. She thinks maybe just acquaintances. They did both mention that they had not read each others books. Because they were both in front of the audience at the same time, there seemed to be less info from each of them. Mom thinks it would be better to have separate meet and greets.

Spence looks heavier in that picture, as well as a tad younger.

You would think those two would have read each other’s books, or at least one or two since they were going to be at an event together.

We have just about finished Who Let The Dog Out (Andy Carpenter). We are saving SAS so we can savor it.

EARTHQUAKE. Strong, I am outside. Either it is near Anchorage or a stronger than usual one on the Richter scale. I usually don’t go outside but this one really rattled my house. Sadie is with me. Mr. Big was last seen heading to the bedroom to seek cover.

CHobbit!…I am hoping you and Sadie are A-OK…snort!…Hopefully the quake was not caused by Mr.Big’s cousin hundreds of miles away jumping off a bed…gah!

  58. Tupper's Mama
    11:13 pm on July 28th, 2015

Rio – the earthquake was south and west of Anchorage. Willow is northwest. The quake map says they might have felt a tremor in Willow, but not as bad as Hobbit and Company.

Tremor!…Well thank-dawg…snort!…As I cannot get my lil Go-Phone to send a text to Ole Doc…sniff!…I was veru worrit, but now I feel much better…snorkel!

T&G: news was saying 100 miles southwest of Anchorage. Yep there were Yaks on the highway near Eagle River this morning. No casualties and the police herded them off the highway.

Poor Anchorage had a flood in midtown a few days ago. A lot of rain in 24 hours and some of the drains were closed off due to road construction.

Speaking of rain….it started pouring just as I was going to take Sadie for a walk. Still 2+ hours of daylight so still might be able to walk later. Mr. Big has decided to climb up my chest and recover from being shaken. Oof
