Good morning! We already have something similar to that dream house. We have our own iPaw (which we use to post on this here blog), and we have a more-or-less automatic treat dispenser. Her name is Mom and she has a backup named Pop. We opted out of the hot tub, thank you very much.

Good morning Howlers. Barb said she probably will not be buying us the Dream House. And I don’t think we need a treadmill since we have our own more-or-less automatic dog walker.

Still haven’t figured out who the surprise guest is, have you? Seems like most of the regulars have been accounted for. What out Bee? Was she on the blog yesterday?

I don’t think she was. But we were thinking Spence. Howlers, do you know who it is?

Will check in later. Now it is off to work to pay for the car boo-boo.

No comment on the dog house.

I was here yesterday. I’m not the “other guest” going to Alaska.

    Good morning all.

That dog house seems to be okay. I get to live in a penthouse apartment with Nick and Nora. When we are not on a case, Nick and Nora are enjoying martinis and fine food. That’s the life!

Isn’t SQ still recovering from hip surgery? I can’t see him heading north to Alaska so soon after that. I really wish it was Mom going.

Good morning, everyone! I am the HOH’s social media and walker. The hot tub belongs to the DDD and me but Darah Thea doesn’t mind a dip now and again.
Got into Anchorage just after 1 AM. A little bleary right now but will be right as rain by the banquet…I hope.
    Have a thoroughly Alaskan Thursday.

Our dog house is bigger. We even have a dining room.
    What??
    This IS our Dog House!

Great reporting from last night. Great pictures! Makes us wish we were there.

And ALR – you look like a young Lauren Bacall – we could see you as the Mystery Woman in a film noir.

It’s morning in Alaska! The HOH folks are there and awake somewhere…..given that I was asleep before they crossed over Seattle, I am amazed!

Barb, Maggie and Lucy….Barbara Woodhouse, reallly? I am delighted! Loved that woman…..”Walkies!” No Bad Dogs the Woodhouse Way saved one of our dogs from a life of grief way back when. And who can be alarmed at being deemed “much younger and more attractive” !! It turns out I am the same age as DDD….just ask him!

Good morning everyone–I’m glad you arrived safely.
That doghouse comes with a car, right?
B M and L–thank you for the information–I had been looking for something like that, but for the dwarvish among us, and the Dickie’s site wasn’t much help. (I know–TMI)
Asta–what do you do for a strengthening cocktail? I’ve never thought of martinis as something members of the Nation would enjoy (more like a White Russian, or Bailey’s maybe…)
It’s brisk but sunny here in SoCa–slinky is on the way…

Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “in the doghouse”.

ALR: You’re looking good with the birthday woman. A spontaneous meet and greet is an unexpected sweet treat.

HOH: What are you doing up already! I’m only up for a minute then back to bed for an hour or so.

I am forgetting to make my important announcement (been too busy playing in all of this snow).
Rico has been opened for donations! Thanks to Rio, whose friend saw those mismatched eyes and must have fallen in love! If you would like to help sponsor Rico, email me at SnowhookDogs@gmail.com

BooBear, Where did you see the list of the Final 17? I missed that.

  18. ALR
    11:14 am on March 5th, 2015

Tupper and Gilly…really? I will be head and shoulders above all me neighbors today! Imagine me walking the dogs and quoting two of my favorite women! “If you want me just whistle. You do know how to whistle don’t you? Just put your lips together and blow.” Now THAT will create a stir!

Another favorite woman of mine is Gert Boyle….google her. She is the woman behind Columbia Sportswear right here in Portland and is One Mean Mother! But when she autographed a jacket for me she said, “If that ever washes off just call me.”

I challenge you all to post a bit about strong women on your admiration list today……and let’s see who pops up. It will give us something to do while we wait out the big events in AK.

  21. BARB, MAGGIE AND LUCY

Strong women we admire: Eleanor Roosevelt has to be one of the first to come to mind.

  22. ALR
    11:51 am on March 5th, 2015

Diane,it is a very wide open challenge. Could it be a woman right next door? Sure! And BTW, I am with you on the strenthening powers of a White Russian or Baileys! There is a calcium quotient there that can’t be ignored.

And yes, agree on Eleanor R., she was a great example of standing up and speaking up.

  23. Diane C.
    11:57 am on March 5th, 2015

ALR–Ah–calcium quotient of cream-based cocktails–right you are. (And if you drink Manhattans with extra cherries you can count that as a serving of fruit…)

  24. BARB, MAGGIE AND LUCY
    11:58 am on March 5th, 2015

Meashka, you beat us to it.

T & G, You mentioned concerns about Hulk the 175 lb. Pit yesterday. Evidently he hangs out with a 3 year old boy. That would make me a little nervous. One bad decision on Hulk’s part would not be pretty.

Also, to add to my comment last night about the early white settlers – Roger Williams is one who we could follow. He had a lot of negativity directed at him in his lifetime, due to his controversal views on the Native Americans and religion. He was probably the first to advocate separation of church and state, and more liberal views toward non-Christians.

Virginia Woolf was a very strong woman. Not only did she write and publish wonderful novels, essays and letters; there are also the “feminist” works A Room of One’s Own and Three Guineas.

Jane Austen was also a strong woman.

so many women – as you all know by now, we LOVE Eleanor Roosevelt and try to channel her whenever times get tough. We also have a great deal of respect for Katherine Hepburn – she was both tough AND a lady – another trait we strive for.

One of our personal favorites is an Apache woman who decided that she would rather be out fighting battles than staying at home waiting. Lozen was the first of many warior women – but she was the one who opened the leaders eyes to the fact that women can and should be tough, and that women can be fighters if that is the way they choose.

(awwww – HOH Mom – Mama says she is nowhere in the league of extraordinary women, but she thanks you for the compliment)

Sadie and Rio are so funny. With so many people in the house fixing different vittles as the lazy morning continues, they keep following the food. I second Dawson about our mother, Maggie. I remember celebrating her 80th birthday at a protest in Wisconsin at the ELF installation. She had a big birthday cake and then they stormed the installation. (Walked into the driveway).

Mom went pretty fast although she was old and legally blind with Macular Degeneration. I remember one of the state police trotting after her saying “Maggie, come on Maggie, slow down. She claimed she didn’t stop until she came to the back fence.

She was jailed twice for “crossing the line”. One week each time. The third time she protested she refused to go back for the trial saying “Let them come and get me”

She told us about getting a phone call from my brother the Turtleman. The jailer came to call her to the phone saying her son was worried about her. She refused the call saying “Let him worry. He worried me enough in his life” Heh heh heh.

One time I received a letter from her with the return address “A Penal Institution in Wisconsin” The post mistress in North Dakota was quite intrigued.

    Maggie was a pistol

My mom stood on street corners with signs protesting the war in Iran, served on jury duty and donated her check to “Another Mother for Peace” organization instead of spending it on herself. She knew right from wrong, believed in justice, didn’t try to finagle her way out of paying less taxes. Rented apartments to Mexican Americans at a lower than market rate so that their children could go to school, they could buy a car and decent furniture rather than paying most of their money on rent in the high real estate prices in CA years ago. More later…

    Hmmm—someone beat me to Harriet Tubman and Jane Goodall (and most of the others) but let’s not forget the persecuted 3rd century philosopher Hypatia (“Reserve your right to think, for even to think wrongly is better than not to think at all.”);
St. Gertrude the Great (for thinking in terms of efficiency–you can google her to find out why); and our own Justice R.B. Ginsburg.
Honorable mention to Helen Gurley Brown for her subtextual message behind the carpola in Cosmopolitan and her books: “While you’re waiting for some guy to come along and make your life complete, why not follow some of these suggestions and build a life for yourself?”

My gal Zeta and I got another chance to be sled doggies today; I hope to have some video either later tonight or tomorrow. Oh, my. The snow! We have just had a few inches the last two snow storms. While we are tired of it, we have numerous plows and are mobile again quickly. Good luck to all.
We are eager to know the mystery guest.

It’s so good to see the beautiful owl hat again. I bought it in Ellicottville from the store where Jay and Tyb work. it’s called a Touch of Ellicottville and they’re the ones who made the Hobbit Hotel sign also.

Masquers must have been in secret talks with the Thieves at some point once she saw her good friend Rio here. I had escaped the Hobbit Hotel reunion and gone and laid down for a couple of hours. That will teach me. Woke to find Masquers at the Hobbit Hotel. Off to Banquet in 8 minutes. Mystery guest might be at banquet going directly from airport. Stay tuned.

Tonight I have been left behind while they are all at the Mushers Banquet..sniff!…A pity because I had a diagram I wanted to show AJ on how he should run the whole race. Happy Family Reunion. Poor Nana has been up since 4 am. She kept being delayed and/or bumped off planes. 3-hour flight and she has been traveling at least 8 hours. Sorry for the blurry photo. Wanted to get her to mushers’ banquet.

Who knew that there was a no cat policy at the banquet? Masquers came home with me and is warming up Nana’s pillow. (Towel is because Sadie is prone to getting on the bed.) Early reports from Snowbella had Nana dancing on the table but I am sure that was an exaggeration. Sharon I could see doing with the right motivation but not our sweet Nana.

When we were at the banquet AJ gave us an overview of thenew trail. I brought it home and copied it for you. All the marks in red are AJ.

AJ put in milages and the hash marks are places where he expects to rest. When he got to Elim he told us that part of the ice there is covered with several feet of water so they might not be able to take the usual route and will have to go inland or farther out on the ice. Yeep.

Aj’s goal is the do the race in a shorter time this year. He has gone down in time each year and last year he was at 10 days. This year he hopes for 9.5 days.

He also listed the 17 dogs that he has chosen for this year. One will be left behind. Perhaps Rico who has trouble with the heat or one of the girls, maybe Florence, who is not as strong.

Oh yeah. THe L in front of the name means that dog is a leader and the T means it is a team member and can be a wheel dog or anything other than a leader.

Now it is late and I am tired here.

Excellent reporting from the Mushers Banquet. Almost (but not quite) like being there. Thanks for the map. We are printing it. And thanks for the list of dogs on the A-Team. Thank Dog Clyde is on there. Youse need to take a picture of him for Mom. He is all black. Mom cannot identify him on sight; he is easily identifiable by his desire/need to greet, hug, love love love.
We’d like to also see the B-Team now.
