2011!

Bernie’s still asleep. From the way he looks, he’ll be sleeping for quite a while. I hope he remembers those fireworks when he gets up. We were so close to them! BOOM BOOM BOOM. The sounds got me more excited than the sights. Did I end up in the pool? “Chet’s swimming in the New Year,” Bernie said.

Happy New Year, everybody!

TYB, LOVE the card! Did you friend do all that or did Molly’s mom help? We know she is very talented, too. You are a very handsome fellow.

We join you in wishing everyone on the blog a Happy New Year!

Chet, I think I’d like to go swimming with you (in a pool rather than in a bioluminescent bay). Happy New Year wishes to you, your creator and his family, and of course to your partner, Bernie.

MagPie! Thanks for thinking my Mom is talented, but Tyb’s card takes way more talent than we have. Tyb’s dad is a photographer and the greeting cards are for sale. That handsome dog has a calendar too. The proceeds all go to Tyb and Blou’s charities.

Happy, Safe, Healthy, Prosperous and Chet filled New Year Everyone!

I hope, if Bernie threw Chet in the pool, that Chet crawled right in bed with him. Though it sounds like Bernie wouldn’t have noticed.

Melanie: I like the Chet-filled year thought. I think Chet jumped in the pool of his own accord as we have seen him do various times.

Rio, tell your friend that I am thinking of her. I will miss Grandma even though I never met her. I think she would have liked me too because I love to eat people food.

    B.
I would love to show you some samples of my calendar, but don’t know how to do it.
I don’t think it would be appropriate to post them here and don’t know how to send them to your blog. If Mollypop’s mom has your email address, maybe she’ll send it to me and I’ll send you something that way. Thanks for your interest. Since Blou started doing the notecards and calendars 8 years ago, Code Blou, his cause, has raised and donated thousands of dollars to help provide emergency life saving medical care for pets whose owners can’t afford the full cost of the necessary treatment.

Happy New Year, everybody!! Only 9 months until the new C&B mystery book comes out.

Rio, we think it is time for some serious undercover work by your team of specialists. We need more sneak peaks of the story and, of course, the wrap up of the Astrid case.

Bluecat, Mom’s soul is definitely reaching for infinity. Books are often a person’s best friend. Thank goodness for the Kindle she got last year.

I am the Year of the Horse . . .

Wölfie: Dan is doing better. His lungs are still weak (they are carefully watching those) but he is in PT and OT.

His doctor (real primary care doctor) wants him to wait to come home until after my knee operation. I won’t be able to get up and around for 4 or more days.

I’m going to post a few pictures from this year’s calendar. In the past, Blou appeared on all the monthly pages. I wasn’t around for the whole year in 2010, so the calendar was transitional. The cover said that we were introducing Tyb and remembering Blou, and it showed a couple of sketches done by a local girl who loves them both. Inside
are a few of my friend’s favorite pictures of Blou from the past and a few candids of me.

Melanie, you asked about the tornado. It hit Illinois in a little town nearn Springfield, which is at least 200 miles south of here. We were safe.

Glad you are okay Barb & MagPie.

    TYB: Cool eye wear.

BlueCat: Beautiful quote. (meant to say that before)

I went pole walking today. Two cross country looking ski poles and just shoes. A friend told me about them. She knows an 85 year old woman who started using them because she had bad knees and it works for her.

So down the street I went. I didn’t lurch (my style of cane walking). Didn’t feel like I was going to fall. Pretty cool. Hmmm. I did discover that many, many, many muscles have been used incorrectly for some time.

I’m upstairs now after taking some aspirin and determined to get further tomorrow.

Have to get the knee in shape for the operation on the 14th.

She says that since she is halfway to her goal weight, she can take the day off. I am going to join her in the kitchen with Gus and Teddie and Baxter and wait for crumbs. Wish me luck!

Tyb, I am glad you are putting the pictures up on the blog. Blou was sure a good model wasn’t he? Lynn did some very good illustrations. Maybe she should be introduced to Andrea?

    Lexi thanks for the Bob’s.

Dawson, we are both reaching for something for sure. Either that or we just like books. Heh. I think it is inherited. I think A Catty Librarian is smarter than us. She just became a librarian and has all the books she wants without buying them.

Wolfie, I was thinking about you last night and the difficult time you are having with the boys/men and thinking how hard it muct be to do what is best for them. Easy to say what is best when you do not really know the boys, but I imagine it is very hard to do what is best when you know and love them. So for New years I wish you the strength to do what is best and the courage to be very strong when you feel the weakest. Good Luck. We are all hoping for the very best for you this year.

Astrid? I have a faint memory of someone with that name? Anyone else remember…anything?

Jumping in the pool? My sister in law jumped in a frozen lake 13 years in a row. Eventually, two years ago, she wised up, but she had attained Shark status. (You start out the first year as a guppy)

Here is a video of one of her last jump years. Her name is “E”
The people screaming GO E are A Catty L, me and a niece. It was way below zero that day and they had to keep raking the water because it would freeze into ice in just minutes.

Happy New Years everyone from here in Chevy Chase. Some good postings today, including those from Tyb (I would like to know how to order a calendar too) and the Shark dive video of Staff’s sister-in-law, definitely one brave (or foolhardy) lady. While I have been known to take an unauthorized plunge or two to cool down in the heat of summer, I think below zero is a bit chilly even for me. Hopefully we will have some photos later of Rio’s friend’s latest quilling creations. Wookie

    Aller Dip

Mary and Wolfie, that must be so hard, and I don’t have kids so I have no idea what it’s like. But you’re right, you have to find a way that doesn’t enable them to turn into their dad. And like you, I know that continuing to do what you’ve done in the past, hoping they wake up to themselves, isn’t the answer.

Jeez, I’m still being moderated. So, certain words must be holding things up.

Let me try with different words.

My knee operation is the 14th. Just day surgery. I started today walking with two “sticks” to keep my balance. This is better than the cane, because I tend to lurch when using it.

We have finished our big concert of The Last Waltz, I think. Maybe a few cuts will be replayed. We do this once a year. When we got to the part where they were all on stage, I thought we blew the roof off, but no police arrived.

Quilling!…It seems like she started this crafty stuff last month, but time lately has no meaning…grunt!…She says, and I believe her, that she was in a little craft store looking for a beginning Quilting book, instead saw a book about Quilling and wondered what it was…snort!….So she looked through the book and thought, “I can roll and cut paper maybe.” Because she was never confident about the whole Quilting business… cough!…So she went home, without the book, and looked up Quilling online…sniff!… That day she ordered a beginners kit and some other supplies from the Quilling Superstore (who’d a thought) online….sniff!…She has been teaching herself how to do it because she has yet to find a book with any detailed instructions…snorkel!…It’s all about learning how to use the techniques to make the shapes and then arranging those shapes into something…wheeze!…Plus, using color to enhance the objects. All I know is, she is a much calmer person since she found this insane hobby…grunt!

Dip!… Does that dip taste like ketchup?…snort!…We can’t imagine how this would turn out, but two plunderers like it so it must be worth trying at some point…grunt!… Although, my friend says she is going on a yogurt, apple, cottage cheese and green onion diet as soon as next week…heh!…Not me. I’m staying where I am and that’s just fine by me…snort!

Have I told you all that I have the best mom in the world? The bestest in the entire universe? She made a crockpot pot roast soup for one/two in the crockpot today. She just took the meat out and broke it apart to put in back in the soup and she gave me all…yes ALL!…the pieces of meat with fat on them. She made sure that it was cool enough for me to eat and then gave me a 2-legged plate with the awesome deliciousness on it right next to my regular food bowl! Oh joy, oh rapture! Fatty round steak ambrosia! I love my life, love it, love it!

Jasper!….Very jealous here…sniff!…That scenario would never happen here because she still insists I try to lose my holiday weight…heh!(thank you Grandma!!!)

MagPie!… To finally answer your question, it took forever and ever to make the first one, which is not pictured because of the excess glue that needs to be meticulously scraped off…grunt!… These two took at least one hour or more a piece. She was getting quicker because by then she had memorized how many of each object she needed and how to put it all together….snort! … If she needs another one for the project it will probably take under an hour to make. She made quite a few of the stems and leaves before the auntie and cousin showed up today blowing her project plan out of the water…grunt!

Rio, That project looks like it would take longer than 1 hour per flower. She must be pretty fast! We are impressed.

MagPie!… If she can only concentrate on making things and gluing them together with no interruptions, she can be relatively ‘quick’….snort!…It’s not a craft that encourages quickness though…heh!…Detail is very important!…or so I’ve heard as she tosses stuff away in the waste basket…grunt!

If you prefer the eyes I can put them back up, but I thought I might give you a break. You are so susceptible. I had to look that word up to spell it. It is a tricky one.

Nooo!…I keep looking at Alice’s new avatar eyes, which at first glance seem to be looking downward. Now they are looking right back at me…yeep!…It’s like ‘Night Gallery’ with Rod Serling. Her eyes keep moving until they are locked onto mine…..Ahhhh!
