Friend of the Month Reminder

“Last day of the month already,” Spence says. “I wish August had 62 days.”

“Failing that,” says Admin, “it’s time for the September Friend of the Month reminder. Check the right of the screen. See Rex? He’s Chet’s August Friend of the Month. Rex’s human companion sent in a photo to the Friends of Chet gallery, just as Dustin, Lily and Milo’s HC did today. The random number generator – “

“East German Army surplus, circa 1956 – “

” – does the rest. Winner stays over there for the month and the winner’s human companion gets a signed and paw-printed – “

“And diamond-encrusted *– “

” – copy of the latest Chet and Bernie novel, in this case A Fistful of Collars, but in October it will be The Sound and the Furry.”

“This could be you! Just send in a photo!”

*All 100% true, except for the diamond-encrusted part. See below.

Snowhook Labor Day Auction – Tonight!

August 30th, 2013 Posted 7:46 am

It’s that time again! Join the Snowhook Kennel team in their Labor Day Weekend fund raising auction! Coordinated by Friends of the Kennel, the Labor Day auction boasts unique gifts and many one-of-a-kind items. All proceeds from this auction will support Snowhook’s 2013/2014 race season. Snowhook is a wonderfully humane racing kennel based in Willow, Alaska, that competes in many races, including the famous Iditarod. Rebecca and Justin (AJ) are a great couple who run the kennel—AJ is the musher—and we at chetthedog.com plus a lot of people who come here every day love to support their efforts. Snowhook Kennel has enjoyed some success in mid-distance races including two first place finishes, two top five finishes; AJ has received two Humanitarian Awards for exceptional dog care in two mid-distance races and was nominated for the 2012 Iditarod Sportsmanship Award. Snowhook has the goal of becoming a top ranked team in the Iditarod in the next three to five years. Maintaining a racing kennel and taking good care of all those beautiful dogs is expensive. This evening an online auction begins at 8:00pm EST – closing Monday at 4:00pm EST – to help raise money for the team. There are a lot of great items for race fans, Snowhook supporters, dog lovers and even cat lovers. All you have to do is go to the Snowhook site (http://snowhookkennel.blogspot.com) and a link to the auction will appear when it’s time for the auction to begin.

Welcome Henry, Hank.

“I understand you’re going to Lexington this time,” Admin says.

“Very excited about that,” says Spence. “I’ve never been to Kentucky before, no idea why. The store – Joseph-Beth Booksellers – is supposed to be great. I’m there Wednesday Sept. 11 at 7 PM.”

“Talking, signing, possibly reading from The Sound and the Furry?”

“And tossing out a few Chet and Bernie stress balls.”

“Are you going to tell the story about when you drowned?”

“Wasn’t planning to.”

“I think you should reconsider – based on a certain scene in The Sound and the Furry.”

“Hmm. Say no more.”
